The HumanCar company will be selling a human-hybrid car this spring. It is
propelled by four people
pushing and pulling on T-bar levers. A battery is included to give the
passengers a break.
I have often thought that the energy generated by people working out at the
gym could be put to good
use. A good workout can generate 200 kcal/hr. About 1500 people working out
simultaneously could
generate 1 MW. With the new grid this could be feasible.

There is very little to report on advances in cellulosic ethanol production.
It is still in the R&D phase which means decades yet. One researcher did
observe that termites eat wood and found a microbe in the belly of the termite.
Cows eat grass and belch methane. Although cows can do it, it is a long way
for chemists and engineers to duplicate.
